The Friends of the Detroit River envisions an ever improving quality of life for people, plants and animals in southeast Michigan and southwest Ontario through development of a balance of grass roots advocacy and staffed programs forming an environmental group that watches and protects the Detroit River including creation of a highly visible resource center focusing on Detroit River issues, programs, research, policies and partnerships.
The Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy conserves natural land and open space -- including forests, wetlands, meadows, agricultural land, and places of scenic beauty -- to provide habitat for wildlife and to enrich the lives of people.
The Friends of the Rouge seeks to promote restoration and stewardship of the Rouge River ecosystem through education, citizen involvement and other collaborative efforts, for the purpose of improving the quality of life for the people, plants, and animals of the watershed.
The Friends of Nankin Mills has worked with Wayne County Parks since 1987, to preserve the historic Nankin Mills in Westland Michigan and ensure it remains an important community resource. Nankin Mills is also home to Wayne County Parks which oversees the Holliday Nature Preserve.
Wayne County Parks oversees all parks and recreation areas belonging to Wayne County. Holliday Nature Preserve is the only natural area within the Parks department.
